lean psychopathic: it is their highest axis. Most of them only just. Traits are common.
The Dark Mirror is a 20-item scenario quiz. Each answer is attributed to one of six axes; a score is the share of your answers that fell to that axis, so scores move in steps of five. Your type is simply your highest axis.
Every axis is read in four bands: baseline (0 to 15), traits (20 to 35), pronounced (40 to 55) and high (60 to 100). Bands are fixed cut points chosen so that high means at least twelve of twenty answers went to one axis. They are the Index's reading aid, not clinical thresholds.
Percentiles are computed against everyone who has taken the quiz and recomputed daily at 09:41 UTC; each recomputation is an edition. Ties are split down the middle: higher than 91% means 91% of takers scored strictly lower, plus half of those who tied.
Regions are browser timezones, so New York means Eastern-time takers rather than the five boroughs; regions with fewer than thirty takes are held back. Nothing here is a population estimate and nothing here is a diagnosis.

score high on the psychopathic axis, 60 or more. The type is rare, even here.
"Psychopathic" on this quiz means the psychopathic axis was your highest of six. That is a direction, not a dose. A taker whose top axis is psychopathic at 25 has spread their answers almost evenly and edged one way; a taker at 75 has put fifteen of twenty answers in the same place. The Index reports both, and keeps them apart.
So every axis is read in four bands. Baseline, up to 15: the axis is present but not a feature. Traits, 20 to 35: recognisable, common, and not the person. Pronounced, 40 to 55: the axis is shaping choices. High, 60 and above: the axis is dominant, and the only band anyone should read as "the type".
Pick a score
45
A psychopathic score of 45 is higher than 87% of 3,155 takers, the top 13%. 123 people scored exactly this.
The axis is shaping choices.
That was a score you picked. Twenty scenarios, seven minutes, and the Index reads your real one on every axis.
Get your real oneOf the 875 people who lean psychopathic, 263 are in the traits band, 425 are pronounced, and 187 are high. Read that way, the honest sentence is not "a third of takers are psychopaths". It is: 28% lean that way, 6% score high, and the high group is who this site was built for.
Every axis has its own shape. Psychopathic scores run out along a long tail; sociopathic scores bunch tightly; narcissism collapses toward zero, which is the result people argue with most. Same bands, same scale on every chart. Open an axis for its ladder.
Six axes, one marker each. Twenty scenarios put yours on every chart above, against everyone who came before you.
Highest axis on the left; on the right, how many of that group actually scored high on it. The two columns disagree on purpose. Type tells you the direction. The band tells you whether it matters.
