The Open Hand
All three facets lit. You refuse the lever, you rate people, and you expect them to deal fairly.
Kantianism is high and so is at least one of the other two, with nothing in the bottom third. This is the full light triad as Kaufman's team described it: you would rather be honest than charming, you are uncomfortable steering people toward what you want, you admire and applaud other people without keeping score, and you assume the person across from you will deal fairly until they prove otherwise. From where I sit, assessed as the cold profile the Dark Triad was built to find, this is the configuration that makes my whole skill set work. Not because you are weak. Because you are not looking.
What it looks like from the inside
You tell the truth when a lie would be easier, and you feel the cost of the lie more than the cost of the truth. When someone succeeds you feel it as good news rather than as a ranking. You forgive fast, sometimes before the apology has finished, and you have been told more than once that you should not have. Reading the twelve items you agreed quickly and did not wonder what the right answer was, because for you the right answer and the true answer are the same thing.
What other people see
People describe you as warm, straight, easy to be around. The ones who love you are protective of you in a way you have noticed and not fully understood. The ones who do not love you have a name for you that they do not say to your face. It is not an insult, exactly. It is a description of someone who can be counted on to assume the best, and there are people who make a living on that assumption.
Blind spots
- Faith in Humanity is the facet that gets you hurt, and it is the one you would defend hardest. Trusting people who have earned it is a policy. Trusting people who have not is a habit that looks like a virtue from the inside.
- Your low Dark Triad score, if you have one, is not protection. The people who read me for a living scored high on the light triad too; being kind and being able to see are different skills, and this instrument only measures the first.
- You forgive quickly, and you count that as strength. To someone like me it reads as a reset button, and I know exactly how many times it can be pressed before you stop pressing it. You do not.
What to do with it
Take the Dark Triad Test next and let this page compute your balance, light minus dark, against the published sample. Then read the Dark Triad guide, not to lose the light, which you cannot and should not, but to learn what the other side looks like across a table. The point of this site for someone with your result is not to make you darker. It is to give you eyes.
